How to get to Pachamama - Puerto Viejo

Pachamama is located on the south of the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, 8 km southeast of Puerto Viejo in Punta Uva. To reach us, you have the following possibilities:

Local buses are convenient and cheap. Departures for the Caribbean coast take place recently at “ Terminal Atlantico Norte” in San Jose.

Caution, do not confuse Puerto Viejo de Talamanca (or de Limon) with Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui. Departure time from San Jose : 6:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00am, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. The bus at noon goes up to Manzanillo, the driver can drop you at the bus stop of Punta Uva, at a few steps of Pachamama. These are Hotel-to-hotel shared and scheduled transfers to and from the main tourist destinations in Costa Rica. If you wish we may reserve this service for you.  You can use the INTERBUS shuttle for your TRANSFER IN (from San Jose or Arenal to reach Pachamama Jungle River Lodge) :  ▶ From San Jose departure is around 8.00 AM, arrival time is around 12.30 PM, cost is 50$.  ▶ From La Fortuna Arenal departure is around 6.00 AM, arrival time is around noon, cost is 60$. Note that the INTERBUS company does not pick-up in all the hotels. If you plan to use this service, ask us to check before you confirm any reservation.  This service is only possible if you stay the overnight in San Jose area or if your flight lands before 6.00 AM.  Pick-up at the airport is not possible, you will need to reach the Hampton Inn (closest pick-up place) with a taxi.  You can use the INTERBUS shuttle for your TRANSFER OUT (from Pachamama Jungle River Lodge to the airport, San Jose or Arenal) :  ▶ To the airport or San Jose departure is at 6.10 AM or 1.35 PM (you choose), arrival time is 4 1/2 hours later, cost is 50$. ▶ To La Fortuna Arenal departure is around 10.30 AM, arrival time is around 4.30 PM, cost is 60$. Note that the INTERBUS company does not drop off in all the hotels. If you plan to use this service, ask us to check before you confirm any reservation. We do not recommend using this service to reach the airport if your flight leaves before 2.00pm.

An original way to be transferred IN or OUT of Pachamama Jungle River Lodge would be to mix it up with a rafting adventure trip!

Here is how it goes : You will be picked up in the morning at 6.00 AM from your Hotel in San Jose, Arenal or from Pachamama Jungle River Lodge. ▶ At 8.30 AM you will arrive at the company center place located on the edge of the river PACUARE. The rafting company will keep your luggage safe in lockers and will serve you a good breakfast, you can also change yourself to get ready ! ▶ 9.30 AM starts the adventure ! 3 - 4 hours of rafting class III and IV with lunch on the river... ▶ 1.30 PM you arrive at the company center place where you can have a shower, change yourself, and take your luggage back ▶ 2.00 PM the rafting company drives you to your final destination : Pachamama Jungle River Lodge, your hotel in San Jose or in Arenal This trip includes breakfast, lunch, rafting outfits and equipment and of course the guides. The rafting itself lasts 3-4 hours going down the river (minimum age 12).  Cost : $99 per person.  If you want we can arrange this unforgettable experience for you. 

If you do not have a car, you can : ▶ Use our bikes (included in our rates) : Manzanillo is about 5km, Playa Chiquita 2km and Puerto Viejo 8km and Punta Uva beach 400m. ▶ Use the services of a cab (we can call it for you) : a journey from Pachamama to Puerto Viejo costs approximately 10$. ▶ We can reserve a car for you. It will be waiting at the reception Pachamama whenever you want.
